  First of all, let me say that I'm all about supporting small local businesses. I also understand that when supporting these types of businesses you sometimes pay a little more to keep the money and the jobs local. But, there is a fine line between making a reasonable profit and outright gouging. Recently my wife and I returned home to Hanover to visit relatives. And like we often do, we picked up some of the local delicacies for shipment back to Portland, Or. The shipment included a box of Martins chips, four boxes of Tastykakes, two bags of Utz chips and a barrel of Utz pretzels. Off we went to Parcel Plus with our goodies. Now I knew it might be pricey (I ship stuff all the time), but I wasn't prepared for a shipping cost of $150.00!!! Not only that, but we were told that it would take two weeks to get to Portland. I was shocked. I think I said something like, "I'll throw this stuff out before I pay that much to ship this to Portland". Out the door we went looking for another alternative. As it turns out there was a UPS store just across town. Long story short, UPS charged us $32.00 to ship everything but the pretzels (that included packing and 7 day delivery) and we took the pretzels back to the Utz outlet store and they shipped them for $10.00..... a total of $42.00. Parcel Plus would have charged us almost 4 times that amount. Now, what really burns me about this is the fact that there are a lot of trusting elderly people in the area on fixed incomes that go to this establishment without even thinking about it. They think that a little business like this wouldn't do them wrong. Well if charging almost 4 times the amount for shipping isn't doing them wrong, I don't know what is. Parcel Plus should be ashamed!!!
